Have you ever felt like you’re not able to do or get something you want due to a poor economy, a bad boss, an illness or someone in your life that doesn’t want you to succeed?  Well, my friend, I’m sorry to tell you that you are living with a victim mentality.  You are allowing yourself to be the victim of a person or circumstance that is present in your life.

Create Change By Shifting Your Mindset

Most of us don’t want to think of ourselves as victims.  I know I don’t.  But when I started examining my responses to situations in my own life, I discovered that I was doing exactly what I didn’t want to, making myself a victim.

Victims tend to be submissive, defensive and even passive-aggressive in situations where they feel like they’re under attack from someone.  They are always waiting for the next bad thing to happen, expecting problems at every turn.

Fortunately, most of us are not victims in every area of our lives, just certain situations or around certain people.  So how do we change our response in these situations?  It’s not as hard as you may think.  Simply switch your point of view.  Here’s how . . .

Become a creator of your circumstances instead of a victim.

Start by determining what you don’t want in your life.  Then, instead of feeling like there’s nothing you can do to change it and your stuck with it, ask yourself one very important question . . .  “What CAN I do to change this situation?”

By asking yourself this one simple question, you immediately change your perspective and regain control of your situation.  Your brain starts to look for solutions instead of feeling helpless to do anything.  And by regaining control of your situation, your self-esteem and self-confidence start to grow and you welcome more joy into your life.

Try this journaling exercise:  What areas of your life make you feel like a victim?  Who or what brings up feelings of helplessness in you?  What are some steps you can take to start changing that situation and regain control?

Recognizing that you are allowing yourself to be a victim is the first step to making positive change.  You are not stuck in a bad situation, but you are choosing to be stuck if you don’t do something to change it.  It’s time to become the creator of your own life instead of just standing by while life happens to you!
