When we want to make a change in our lives we tend to set goals, make plans and tell ourselves “this time I’m going to make it happen”.  Then a few weeks or months go by and we’ve forgotten all about those wonderful plans we made. Well, now it’s time to change all that!  Here are a few ways to make a connection to your goals so that you can manifest dreams into reality:

Know your “WHY”.

Why is it important for you to achieve this goal?  If the answer is “just because”, chances are you’ll never achieve it.  But if your goal is to lose weight so you can have more energy and feel better in your clothes, for instance, you can connect with that goal and it will be easier to make it a reality.

Make it a positive goal.

Instead of saying “don’t eat junk food” try something like “eat healthier” or “save more money” instead of “don’t get in any more debt”.  Making it a positive goal will make you happier when you think about it.

Set benchmarks for achieving your goal.

What does “save money” actually mean?  A savings account with $5,000? $10,000?  Paying off debt?  Putting enough aside for a vacation?  Or just spending more wisely?  Whatever it is, make sure you have a benchmark for knowing when you’ve achieved it.

Create a plan for reaching your benchmarks.

For instance, if you want to lose 10 pounds by summer, your plan might include adding 20-30 minutes of exercise a couple of times a week to your schedule.  If you’re trying to save money for the holiday season, you might start putting aside a set amount each paycheck.  What do you need to do to reach your goal?

Reward yourself!

When you have something to look forward to, it will keep you motivated.  A small reward is all you need.  Reward yourself for achieving your benchmark goals along the way to your ultimate goal.  Go to your favorite restaurant or enjoy a favorite activity.  Determine your rewards in advance so that you have something to work towards.

To get you started . . .  Write your resolutions then answer these questions about each:  Why is it important to achieve this goal? How will I feel when I achieve it?  How will my life change for the better when I achieve it?  How will the lives of my loved ones change for the better when I’ve achieved it?
